Y-Key Operators are a 5 piece indie-dance band from Failsworth, Manchester. Off the back of their debut album and recently sold out home town shows they are planning on taking the YKO sound out of Manchester and around the UK as well as releasing new material throughout 2019.
They were founded in 2011 and are made up of Woz (Vocals), Jimbo (Lead guitar), Malc (Synth), Nathan (Drums) and Ray (Bass).
Putting their own stamp on the Mancunian indie sound of the 90's, with a variety of styles and influences, YKO are taking synth driven rock and putting a spin on it, where you can't help but want to migrate towards the dancefloor and move to the beat.
We have had an early listen to 'Warning' by YKO and it did not disappoint! You are instantly gripped by the beat of the synth and from there on out bouncing away. 'Warning' most definitely had us wishing it was an album launch not just a single, especially after also hearing the B-side, 'On My Way'. Woz's catchy lyrics make this one to remember and will certainly leave you looking forward to any further material the band are writing currently.
On Friday 29th March, YKO will take to the stage to perform their brand new single 'Warning' amongst hits off their debut album. The gig is their first of the year in their home town and is also a celebration of lead vocalist, Woz Griffiths' birthday. It is going to be a cracker, if you would like to see YKO launch 'Warning' then you can get tickets by clicking here. They are well supported by travelling acts, Kingsley Beat from London and Northern Sports Club from Blackburn. Tickets are only £5 which is an absolute steal, get yourself down.
We managed to catch up with lead vocalist of YKO, Woz Griffiths. We found out what was behind their new single 'Warning', if there is any more music on it's way and just what we can be expecting from the Mancunian 5 piece.
"It's not a prophecy of anything, we're not going down the Messiah's Bono/Geldof route. It's just a little positive message to people out there to never quit your own personal battles, chin up and you'll be alright."
"We are currently writing new material, so hopefully if we can get in the studio in the coming months we should have a new album out by the end of the year."
"Our sound is very diverse, for example our first album had some indie/dance, rock and even a punk track called 'Big Society' (which is very apt with the way the current 'B' word is going... *Brexit*) check it out.
For the new material pencilled down, we have a ska track, more Indie/dance and we're currently working on a track called 'Cressa' which is a 6 minute wonder, which we don't usually write. The majority of our tracks are under 3 minutes. We are just finalising the new 'Cressa' track to hopefully open with it for our launch night. I've not even finished the lyrics yet so the pressure is on."
