WINACHI & DeStijl Live at the Deaf Institute
At SoundMate, we’ve always had our ear to the ground when it comes to the best in boundary-pushing, genre-blending music – especially when it’s born from our own backyard. That’s why we’re buzzing to shout about the upcoming gig on Saturday 28th June at Manchester’s beloved Deaf Institute, where WINACHI will headline a night packed with funk, fire, and fierce musical talent.
We’re especially excited because this show brings together some of our favourite collaborators and long-time friends – including the Mancunian half of DeStijl, who we’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years. Trust us when we say: this is not a night to miss.
WINACHI – The Funk-Driven Force of Nature
If you’ve ever caught WINACHI live, you’ll know exactly why they’re one of the UK’s most exciting live acts. Since forming in 2015, they’ve built a reputation for delivering soul-drenched, funk-fuelled performancesthat blend northern grit with Californian G-Funk smoothness.
Their sound is a melting pot of influences – the result of a band made up of musicians with wildly diverse backgrounds, all united by a shared love of groove. The result? A bone-meltingly funky, ass-shakingly infectious sound that’s impossible to ignore. Their headline set at the Deaf Institute is set to be a masterclass in live performance – expect big beats, slick synths, and a whole lot of swagger.
DeStijl – A Cross-Channel Collaboration with Mancunian Roots
We’re especially proud to see DeStijl on the bill – a band we at SoundMate know well, having worked closely with Scott Jeffreys and Jason Coverdale, the Manchester-born half of this unique Anglo-French outfit.
Now based between Montpellier and Manchester, DeStijl have been crafting their distinctive brand of indie dance-rock since the late ’90s. Their sound draws on the legacy of bands like New Order, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, and Primal Scream, blending moody atmospherics with dancefloor-ready rhythms.
Their latest single, “Animosity”, is a bold, brooding track taken from their upcoming album Ey Up! – a title that cheekily nods to their northern heritage. With Pascal and Patrice bringing the French finesse and Scott and Jason grounding the band in Mancunian grit, DeStijl are a true cultural fusion – and their live set is guaranteed to be a highlight of the night.
Special Guests On The Evening
Also joining the lineup are Doghouse Derelicts, a band that brings pure, unfiltered rock energy to the stage. Their sound is gritty, loud, and unapologetically raw – the kind of music that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go.
If you’re into no-nonsense riffs, pounding drums, and vocals that hit like a freight train, Doghouse Derelicts will be right up your alley. They’re the perfect dose of chaos in a night full of carefully crafted sonic journeys.
Completing this stellar lineup is SilverFinger Singh, an artist who blends South Asian musical traditions with modern electronic and hip-hop elements. His music is a vibrant celebration of identity, culture, and rhythm – a sound that’s as thought-provoking as it is danceable.
Expect tabla grooves, sitar melodies, and bhangra-infused beats layered with contemporary production – a true feast for the senses and a perfect way to round out a night of musical exploration.
