The Demo have joined the SoundMate roster ahead of their new release ‘Before It’s All Gone’. The Middleton indie rock/alternative 5-piece have a big month ahead of them with a headline show at the iconic Deaf Institute on Friday 24th June, where they will be showcasing their latest single. Active since 2018, The Demo are made up of Louie Sweeney (vocals), Jack Dolan – (guitar), Max Moore – (guitar), Luke Brown – (bass) and Matt Quinn – (drums).
We had a chat with Jack Dolan to explore what we can expect from The Demo at their upcoming headline show and the inspiration behind their new single…
Welcome to the SoundMate family boys – please fill us in on how you all met and who your inspirations are…
Me and Louie have been mates since school and had wanted to start a band for years after being mad into the likes of Libertines and Arctic Monkeys growing up but we didn’t have a drummer. We got wind that Matt played drums and we had played football with him a few times so decided to see if he was up for it. He was really interested and that is when the journey of the demo began. Max joined in 2020, he actually supported us at our first ever gig and a couple after that, he has been a brilliant addition to the line-up and has made our sound more complete. Luke only joined us recently after our previous bass player left, Max knew him from college and he’s a very talented musician, so it was the perfect fit.
Your first show under SoundMate will be headlining the iconic Deaf Institute alongside label mates ‘The Coltens’, what can we expect on the night?
This will be our biggest and best show yet with the longest setlist we have played so far. We have been writing some belters lately so we have a lot to choose from and we can’t wait to show everyone what we have been working on. We are dead excited to be playing such an iconic venue and having been there to watch Inhaler last year I can tell you the sound in there is fantastic. There will be a mixture of rock n roll, indie pop and some slower numbers, maybe even a cover or two. It should be a brilliant night with some amazing support and we expect it to be packed to the rafters.
What are the next steps for The Demo now you’ve joined the growing roster at SoundMate?
We are hoping to get a lot more exposure over the next few months as our songs are there, we just need the audience to play them to. Hopefully joining the roster will mean bigger and better shows and being exposed to crowds in different cities and venues. Also, SoundMate have a great list of connections so they will be able to help promote our music and push it infront of the right people.
We get to work straight away on your new single ‘Before It’s All Gone’, which is release on Friday 10th June, what is the inspiration behind this track?
The track initially started as one riff written in my bedroom and then as soon as I brought it to the lads at practice everything else fell into place. I wrote the chorus chords on the spot as if they were there all along and the bridge just fitted naturally. Louie wrote the lyrics and I believe they are about taking your chances before they’re all gone. I’m shrinking them down to size a bit there I’m sure but that is the general gist of the lyrics.
We have had an early listen to the new single ‘Before It’s All Gone’ and we can tell you it is going to go down a treat this summer! Make sure you get your ticket early for their headline show at The Deaf Institute on Friday 24th June where you can see them in action alongside roster stablemates The Coltens and Kestrel Palace.
