The Notion are back with their first headliner since the pandemic struck at The Castle Hotel in Manchester. The gig sold out within two weeks so we are in for a very warm night at the intimate venue, which is the first headline show for The Notion since joining the SoundMate roster. Support on the night is from The Common View and Fauna which is sure to be an amazing night of live music. The last appearance for The Notion was a main support slot at The Deaf Institute for Openbeat’s Christmas Cracker, where the band certainly made a great impression with their hardcore following.
Selling out this headline show so quickly has already got us eager to see where the band can progress this year with another big show potentially on the cards for later this year. We managed to ask frontman Kyle a few questions about the upcoming gig and more importantly just when we can expect some new music from the indie rock outfit.
So your first headliner under the SoundMate Roster is at a SOLD OUT Castle Hotel, how much are you looking forward to it?
Really looking forward to it, it’s been a while since we’ve done a Manchester Headline due to Covid. Our past headlines haven’t disappointed, they’ve always been rowdy and the crowd have always been up for it so we’re expecting the same again. We decided to do an intimate venue for our first one back and it sold out in just over two weeks so we were buzzing with that.
Can we expect to hear some new material in the set list?
Definitely, we will be playing a couple of songs that will be getting their first outing on the night. I’d say the last 6 months have been the most prolific for me in terms of writing so it will be great to get a couple of them in along with the older ones that everyone knows.
This show has been in demand since the announcement, since selling it out so quickly and leaving some fans without a ticket, is there another headline show in the pipeline?
Yeah we’ve had a lot of demand for this gig after it sold out and unfortunately people have missed out, but we’re planning our biggest headline yet in November time at a venue we all love, so we can’t wait for that to be announced.
We are yet to have a taste of new music from The Notion this year, what are your plans for the remainder of the year?
Yes it’s coming, we’ve recently been in the studio recording and it won’t be long until you hear some of them. There’s going to be a couple of singles coming very soon then an EP at the end of the year.
We cannot wait for Friday night and we wish The Notion the best of luck for their long awaited headline show in their hometown. I am sure you are all eager to hear their new material but in the meantime make sure you head over to their Spotify where you can hear their latest single ‘What Was You Expecting?’ alongside their cult classics.
